My daughter has been talking about apple pie for a few weeks now (It’s her favorite part of the Fall by a country mile!) so I wanted to look for a recipe that was new and had a creative touch to it for us to make together when she comes home from Collage for the holidays.

This is a recipe I found for a cinnamon roll apple pie, that is so cool looking. And yes, I said CINNAMON ROLL! The bottom crust is made with regular pie crust, but you layer the crust with a butter, cinnamon, and sugar mixture, then roll it and slice it into individual cinnamon rolls.  Then you take those rolls and flatten them into the pie pan, mashing them together to make a crust that looks like it’s made of cinnamon rolls.

You fill the pie with the apple mixture and then you top it with a wonderful flour, butter, and brown sugar crumble that looks amazingly tasty.  Once it’s cooked you drizzle the pie with a nice cinnamon swirl, so the whole pie looks like one huge cinnamon roll.  This pie is so fun to make and tastes wonderful.  Give it a try and have fun!

Here’s what you need:

Crust:
1 refrigerated pie crust
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons sugar
1 egg, beaten
Pie:
7 – 8 cups apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (I used Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.)
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Crumb topping:
1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup light brown sugar
1 tablespoon granulated (or coarse) sugar
Icing:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon good vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2-3 teaspoons milk
